SBS call-out for Australian stories about eating disorders in adulthood
This is a call-out to Australians who have experienced or are experiencing an eating disorder for the first time in adulthood. Anushri Sood, a producer/journalist for SBS, is working on an article about eating disorders and would like to speak with you. Stories of eating disorder experience help to increase understanding and dispel misconceptions about this very difficult-to-treat illness.
Anushi is broadly interested in hearing from Australian men and women whose eating disorders have manifested later in life for a variety of reasons including trauma (such as childhood trauma, divorce, grief, miscarriage), and struggles with body image or major life events/changes (pregnancy, menopause, youngest child leaving home, becoming elderly).
Particularly, Anushi is looking to speak to as diverse an age group as possible from people in their 30s all the way to people in their 80s and 90s. She is open to hearing stories of people who have suffered from anorexia, binge eating disorder or bulimia. The more stories, the more information!
If you are willing to share your story over the phone, send an email to Anushri.Sood@sbs.com.au with your best contact number. Your contribution will be invaluable and will help spread awareness to affected individuals, carers and the broader community. If you have concerns regarding being identified, Anushi hastens to assure you that she will be happy to work around whatever you’re comfortable disclosing.
This is an excellent opportunity to make your experience count.
